Within Windham Weaponry’s catalog, the 20″ Varmint Exterminator (Vex) Series was developed as a specialized, ultra-accurate precision rifle engineered for sub-MOA performance out of the box. Designed specifically for long-range varmint hunting and precision marksmanship, the Vex platform pairs a match-grade fluted stainless steel barrel with an upgraded, crisp trigger and streamlined ergonomics to maximize bullet velocity and shot-to-shot stability.

Technical Overview

The Windham Weaponry 20″ Varmint Vex utilizes a rifle-length direct gas impingement operating system chambered in .223 Remington / 5.56mm NATO (featuring a high-precision .223 Wylde or 5.56mm match chamber configuration). Built around a 20-inch extra-heavy profile barrel, the platform optimizes muzzle velocity and minimizes recoil impulse, delivering the flat trajectories and thermal mass necessary for sustained, precision long-range engagement.

Construction & Receivers

• Upper & Lower Receivers: Precision-machined from high-grade forged 7075 T6 aircraft aluminum and finished with a hardcoat anodized black treatment. The upper receiver is a slick-sided or railed flat-top configuration without a fixed carry handle, providing an uninterrupted Picatinny rail section for mounting high-magnification riflescopes.

• Barrels & Metallurgy: The 20-inch extra-heavy profile barrel is crafted from 416R stainless steel with longitudinal fluting. The fluting reduces overall weight while significantly increasing surface area for rapid cooling during high-volume strings of fire. Cut with a 1:8 (RH) or 1:9 (RH) twist rate, the barrel is optimized to stabilize popular match-grade and varmint projectiles (ranging from 50-grain ballistic tips up to 75-grain match bullets). • Controls & Furniture: Standard equipment includes an upgraded factory or two-stage match trigger providing a crisp, light break to prevent sight disturbance. Outfitted with an A2 black polymer pistol grip and a fixed A2 solid buttstock with a rear trapdoor storage compartment for stability during prone shooting.

• Muzzle Device & Optics: Features a clean, unthreaded target crown or micro-brake (no standard flash hider) to maintain maximum gas symmetry upon projectile exit. The gas system uses a low-profile gas block concealed or exposed flush with the free-float tube, keeping the optical sightline completely unobstructed.
